Akira box office collections day 2: Sonakshi Sinha’s film mints a total of Rs 10.45 crore!

The hard-core actioner finally hit theatres on September 2nd.

So, Sonakshi’s much-awaited movie directed by AR Murugadoss is finally out. t’s a Hindi remake of the Tamil movie Mouna Guru. The novelty of this movie, was it starred a female hero unlike the original. So,  fans were going to get to see Sonakshi kick some ass and bash up goons. The story was about a girl who comes to Mumbai from a small city and somehow gets involved in an issue run by a corrupt Cop. Everyone was excited to see the Dabbang actress take on a Never seen before role. So, but did it work its magic at the box office?
On day 1, depsite there being a Bharat Bandh, the movie managed to pull in a crowd. It collected Rs 5. 15 crore. Look like, fans wanted to see how Sonakshi would single handedly, shoulder this movie. It started to churn in numbers evening onwards as per Taran Adarsh. The movie was predicted to make a  collection of Rs 20 crore in the opening weekend. But from the looks of Day2 collections, it might be difficult.
Because as per Trade analyst Taran Adarsh, The movie’s collection has been only 5.30. And this despite Saturday being a weekend starter and there being no issue of a Bandh. Have the not-so –kind word-of-mouth review bitten into its box office collection? #Akira shows minimal growth on Sat… Sun is crucial… Fri 5.15 cr, Sat 5.30 cr. Total: ₹ 10.45 cr. India biz. The total collection is now only Rs 10.45 crores. Sunday figures will decided the fate of this movie at the box office.
As per Cost of production figures mentioned by trade expert Akshaye Rathi the movie might recover its cost which was only about Rs 13 crore approx. but it could probably be far from a profitable project. We will have to wait and watch for that. ” I believe it’s pretty reasonably made. The COP (Cost of production) is around 13 crores. If you see the promos, there are no huge production values and all. And Sonakshi Sinha being the co-producer, wouldn’t have charged her entire fee. Anurag Kashyap as an actor would be pretty reasonable. There are no big names who would take big paycheque.”
Now, the Tamil remake was actually a sleeper hit, so the collection did pick on week after. But in Akira’s case, the word of mouth hasn’t been postive to begin with. Even in our review, we had mentioned how the whole hero act by Sonakshi appeared forced. So as of now, Sunday collections are very crucial as that will decide the movie’s performance in box-office terms.
