King Khan all set to re-claim his throne at the box office.
He has three film releases next year just like Akshay this year…
The year 2016 saw the resurgence of Akshay Kumar at the box office with the hattrick of Rs 100 crores hits and saw a rare roadblock in the career of Shah Rukh Khan with a disappointment in Fan, which couldn’t even reach
Rs 100 crores at the box office. As reported by BollywoodLife earlier Akshay Kumar has created a new record in 2016 which even Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan couldn’t break, but looks like the record’s not for long to stay. After not so great last few years, Shah Rukh Khan’s not just all set to bounce back and reclaim his throne, but he’s gonna break a few records on the way too and one such record is Akshay Kumar’s Rs 100 crores hattrick in a single year.
Yes, if all goes well, SRK’s going to have three releases in a single year for the first time in last decade. While having multiple releases in a single year is nothing new for Akshay Kumar, if one has to look at SRK’s filmography it all goes back to 2004 when not two or three but four of his movies released in a single year with much delayed disaster Yeh Lamhe Judaai Ke, a hit in Main Hoon Na, a super hit in the form of Veer-Zaara and critically acclaimed but commercial failure Swades.
If all goes as per plan, come 2017 and we’ll have Raees on Republic Day weekend, Imtiaz Ali’s tentatively titled The Ring on Independence Day weekend and Anand L Rai’s next dwarf movie during Christmas weekend. Raees which was supposed to release on Eid 2016 was postponed to 2017, which may turn out to be a blessing in disguise for this SRK starrer as this movie has been his most talked about in recent years. Shah Rukh Khan has already commenced shooting for Imtiaz Ali’s next alongside Anushka Sharma in Prague and he’ll be starting Anand L Rai’s next by the end of this year.
Raees in particular, I believe, is going to be litmus test for SRK as his last few years has been mediocre critically as well as commercially apart from critically acclaimed Fan and the blockbuster success of Chennai Express. But that’s not what people expect from King Khan, it’s not just quick bucks at the box office, for that you have Salman Khan, it’s more about the shelf life and quality of films amalgamated with the big box office success which he’s been doing successfully in his 24 years long career.
But not to forget here, Akshay too will have releases next year. So it will be interesting to watch how the Airlift actor will defend his feat and how Shah Rukh Khan will try to go past it!
