Syndicated from bleacherreport,
Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins is a WrestleMania-level match.
It's the coming together of two New Era Superstars, two guys who have been connected since their debuts. It's the match that could have happened long before now had it not been for Rollins' knee injury. This is the bout that will define Money in the Bank, and truth be told, it should.
This is one of those matches whose importance cannot be denied. Rollins has feuded with Dean Ambrose, and Reigns has feuded with Rollins' mentor, Triple H. But when it comes to Reigns and Rollins facing off in a match of this magnitude, it just hasn't happened.
This is why WWE formed The Shield in the first place—to build three main event stars, and it's worked perfectly.
From the beginning, fans knew The Shield's domination was legitimate.WWE would not invest that much time and effort into a group that was going to eventually fall apart. Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns all proved they were ready for the big time.
This match is the culmination of that work.
The fact that the WWE World Heavyweight Championship is at stake only enhances the importance of this match. WWE expected this outcome when The Shield was riding high as a trio, and it's now finally come to pass.
Perhaps a Shield main event at WrestleMania could indeed happen.
But as big as this match is, some fans may believe it's not quite living up to the hype. That reaction could come from the fact that Reigns continues to get a negative response despite still being featured as ababyface.
Or maybe that notion comes from the fact that there's no involvement on The Authority's part. If there were, it would heighten anticipation among fans. But perhaps the biggest reason why this match feels a bit secondary is because maybe it is.
John Cena vs. AJ Styles is taking place at Money in the Bank as well, and for many, this is the more important match. It's a bout that has never happened before, a dream match to end all dream matches. The Phenomenal One showed he can work his style and get over in WWE, and everyone knows how Cena raises his game in big matches.
Both men are legends in the business, and they're finally going to do battle in a WWE ring.
It's the match that has captured the attention of fans all over the world, and it could steal the show on June 19. But it should not be more important than Reigns vs. Rollins.
The primary championship should be the main selling point of WWE. Despite which main event guys are not involved, the focus of the company should be on the belt and getting it over. This is especially true of high-profile events such as Money in the Bank.
Cena vs. Styles is a marquee match, but Reigns vs. Rollins is for the gold.
Both Reigns and Rollins may be feeling the pressure to top Cena and Styles, and that's a good thing. Guys perform better when they're challenged, as they want to put on the best match of the night. When this kind of healthy competition happens, it's the fans who win.
Reigns and Rollins will give fans their money's worth at Money in the Bank. They are the men given the task of carrying WWE forward, and they are embracing that to the fullest extent.
Their performance at Money in the Bank will be stellar because that's what they need to do. They are tasked with getting over on the same card as John Cena vs. AJ Styles, and that is exactly what they will do. They are today's leaders of WWE, and they are carrying the company forward. This match will stand out as an important chapter in their story.
