Obviously, the big news this week is the announcement that Bill Goldberg will be inWWE 2K17 this year. This is something that 2K wanted before but a deal wasn’t worked out until now. The 2K commercial and the deal with Goldberg were done on the 2K side. Obviously, Vince McMahon has a say in who goes into the game, but 2K made the deal. If you ever wondered why you sometimes see 2K commercials on UFC programming, it’s because 2K pays for the time. Last year the WWE logo was featured on a UFC event to promote the WWE 2K16 game but that was all arranged by the folks at 2K. They also purchased time on TNA programming when Impact was on Spike TV.

With all of that being said, history generally points to wrestlers eventually doing business with WWE after being featured in the video game. Ultimate Warrior’s video game deal ultimately led to him reconciling with the company and doing business with them again and Sting’s deal with 2K led to him wrestling a few matches with WWE before retiring this year.
So, could this mean that Goldberg and WWE will work something out for a match? It’s very possible. In fact, Goldberg has said in interviews that he would be open to one more match if the price is right. He has talked with Triple H in the past year and told him that he would be willing to put bad feelings aside if the company wants to sit down with him to work something out and he has stated that his son wants to see him wrestle live.
Goldberg’s run in WWE was short. He was signed in 2003 and left a year later because he was not a fan of the creative and the raunchy storylines going on at the time. Things have changed and the product has been cleaned up so, perhaps, he and WWE could come to terms for him to wrestle one more match. Perhaps that match can take place at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando. As most of you saw in the teaser on Monday, Goldberg is still in fantastic shape so it wouldn’t be a bad idea at all. How about a Brock Lesnar vs. Bill Goldberg rematch?
For those that missed it, here is the pre-order trailer for the game:
